Kanda Iori(Kodan)

■Oct.4 (Sat.)10:40~11:10、14:00~14:30
We will present kōdan, one of Japan’s traditional spoken arts, in the style of tsujikōshaku (street-side storytelling). Kōdan is a form of performance in which historical anecdotes and tales are vividly recounted, with the performer rhythmically striking a wooden lectern (shakudai) using a fan (harisen) to set the tempo. The repertoire ranges from classical stories to newly created works. Well-known figures from period dramas and historical novels—such as Mito Kōmon, Ōoka Echizen, Miyamoto Musashi, Yagyū Jūbei, Shimizu Jirōchō, and Kunisada Chūji—were originally popularized as the heroes of kōdan.
Even today, new stories are composed based on contemporary events and personalities. Before dedicated venues for kōdan performances (shakuba) were established during the Edo period, people enjoyed tsujikōshaku, listening to these stories at bustling street corners and in the precincts of temples and shrines.
In this program, we aim to revive that Edo-period atmosphere by presenting tsujikōshaku at Hama-rikyū Gardens. Immerse yourself in the world of storytelling outdoors, as the autumn breeze blows, and reflect on the richness of Japanese culture and history.

Ishimorishachu(Satokagura)

■Oct.4 (Sat.)12:20~12:50
We play the Satokagura dance (Shinto ritual ceremonial folk dance) “Shinden Tanemaki” to express the gratitude for the bountiful harvest of autumn.
Please enjoy the amusing interaction between the fox spirit who sows the seeds and the mischievous man who teases him.

Sharari(Violin×Tsugaru Shamisen)

■Oct.5 (Sun.)10:40~11:10、14:00~14:30
A collaboration unit featuring violinist Komatsubara Miki and Tsugaru shamisen player Pierre Ono. In 2013, they passed the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Heaven Artist music division audition. Since then, they have performed at various events, including the official IOC Evaluation Committee dinner, the Tokyo Governor's "Explore Tokyo" reception, the Seoul Friendship Fair (Korea), and the Roppongi Hills Spring Festival. They have also appeared at numerous street performance festivals, such as Yokohama Daidogei, Sangenjaya Daidogei, Art Town Tsukuba, and Hitachi International Street Performance. They were awarded the Jury Encouragement Prize at the 1st Classical Crossover Audition Grand Prix.
In 2014, they released their first CD, Sharari. With a theme of bringing classical music closer to people, their repertoire spans a wide range, including Japanese folk songs, traditional children's songs, classical music, original tunes, and pop music. Their passionate and boundary-breaking performances, combining the traditional Japanese Tsugaru shamisen and the Western violin, have been well received across the country.
