At Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum, Tea Ceremony(Indoor), Outdoor Tea Ceremony -“Nodate”, Indoor Tea Ceremony in English, Indoor Tea Ceremony for Children will be held.
Tea Ceremony (Indoor) requires an advanced reservation.
Reservation period : August 20(Wed.) to September 8(Mon.)
After the deadline, a lottery will be held to determine the winning reservations. The lottery results will be sent in late September via e-mail.
Tickets for Indoor Tea Ceremony for Children, Indoor Tea Ceremony in English, and Outdoor Tea Ceremony -“Nodate”, will be sold on the day of the event.
The participation fee for is 800 yen including tax except for Indoor Tea Ceremony for Children.
The fee of Indoor Tea Ceremony for Children is 500 yen including tax.
*During the Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony event period, admission for Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum is free.

Tea Ceremony (Indoor)

The tea ceremony will be held indoors. Beginners are welcome to join easily.
In some ceremonies at the Second House of the Nishikawa Family, a Japanedse sign language interpreter will be available.
*Please note that Japanese sign language interpretation for tea ceremony (Indoor) requires prior reservation on this official website at the time of reservation.
*If the number of advance applications for priority seating at the Tea Ceremony (Indoor) does not reach capacity, same-day priority seating tickets for Tea Ceremony (Indoor) will be sold.
Details will be announced on this website in late September.

Outdoor Tea Ceremony-“Nodate”

This tea ceremony is to be held in outdoors and those with no prior experience are encouraged to freely participate. Some ceremonies will have Japanese sign language interpreters.

Tea Ceremony for Children

This tea ceremony provides a fun opportunity for children below junior high school age to learn manners of tea ceremony with guardians. For one or two children, one guardian's participation is required.
*Only at the Edo-Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum
Reservation not required.

  • Eligible Participants: Children below junior high school age and their guardians.

Japanese Sign Language Interpretation

About the Tea Ceremony (Indoor) and Outdoor Tea Ceremony “Nodate” with Japanese Sign Language Interpretation

  • Some sessions of the Tea Ceremony (Indoor) and Outdoor Tea Ceremony “Nodate” will include Japanese sign language interpretation.
  • Advance registration is required for the Tea Ceremony (Indoor), while tickets for the Outdoor Tea Ceremony “Nodate” will be available for purchase at the venue on the day.
  • For sessions with Japanese sign language interpretation, two seats per session are reserved for those who wish to use the interpretation service.

Priority Seats:

  • One accompanying person may also use a priority seat.
  • If you wish to use the priority seats, please present your disability certificate on the day of the event.

■ For those selected in advance for the Tea Ceremony (Indoor):
Please go to the Tea Ceremony (Indoor) ticket counter, bring your selection notification, and purchase your ticket. Please queue in line.
■ For those wishing to purchase priority seats for the Outdoor Tea Ceremony “Nodate”:
Please go to the same-day ticket counter and inform the staff member holding a sign with the Japanese sign language symbol. You do not need to wait in line.


Notes:

  • Even if you are not seated in a priority seat, you will still be able to see the Japanese sign language interpretation at both the Indoor and Outdoor Tea Ceremony sessions.
  • If you are not using a priority seat, you do not need to show your disability certificate. (Please wait in line to purchase your ticket.)
  • If the number of advance applications for priority seating at the Tea Ceremony (Indoor) does not reach capacity, same-day priority seating tickets for Tea Ceremony (Indoor) will be sold. Details will be announced on this website in late September.

About participation fee

Payment can be made on the day of the event through cashless methods such as transportation IC cards, nanaco, Rakuten Edy, QUICPay, iD, or by cash. Credit cards are not accepted.

Matters to be attended to

  • The ownership of photos, videos, and records taken during the event belongs to the organizers, and they may be published in magazines, websites, blogs, etc. Please be aware of this.
  • A list of the potential allergens information for the sweets is on this website under  'Allergens' page. For those with food allergies, please check the list before participating.
  • The event will be changed or cancelled due to various circumstances such as weather.
